hot wiring - steve'o'
I want to start my Dutton (which needs a new loom) by bypassing the ignition. I have provided a + and - to the coil direct from battery, then turned the engine over using the starter.
I am not getting a spark from the HT leads?
Does the body of the coil need an earth?
Is it a live or earth wire which goes into the distributor?

Thanks

No the coil does not need to be earthed.
Your feed (from+ve) needs to go to (+)or SW on coil.
The other terminal (-) or CB needs connecting to contact breaker,(distributor).
Are you sure that you have got the condenser (capacitor) connected correctly. Also remember that radio suppressor (if any) should be on (+) side of coil.
