I believe they have quite a complicated EGR system built into the inlet manifold which can cause grieve but by your description the turbo is not working this could be caused by many reasons,be careful that the oil seals have not gone and the engine is not sucking in engine oil.It should run perfectly normal on Euro 95.

Not a Golf, not petrol and not a supercharger but my Citroen Xantia ocasionally puts on it's engine management light and/or goes limp mode. Can be just a transient fault or a flap/valve that's slow to open or close.

If it's cleared I'd suggest it's not too serious but get a specialist to look at it. MAybe just stuff that needs a clean.

Yeah egr system not simple youtu.be/20qqavckWdw found this on you tube to try understand it not had any problems today have put shell v power in it not sure if its just in my head but seems more responsive in throttle response but been on few forums to see if anyone else had same thing seen a few some suggested knock sensor then in handbook and on petrol flap recommends super unleaded fuel so shall see how that goes but think should of kept my fabia vrs never had any issues this golf also had spark plugs changed twice as well as coils :-(

The clutch for the supercharger is temperamental as our the change over flaps in the induction system and turbo waste gates are prone to sticking ! The clutch for the supercharger is a whole water pump assembled and a pig to fit ! Done a few ! To be honest these engines are very temperamental and once they reach 50k plus they a can be a wallet bender! Coil packs, plugs and pistons are all poor.
Best to have a proper diagnostic check and look in faults pending in EOBD, and freeze frame. Conditions are captured as they happen and most techs forget to check there first.
