Purchasing a second hand car during the lockdown. - JohnX

Thinking of purchasing a car and part exchanging my existing one as there is a potential possible issue with present one.

Does anyone know if the DVLA are still open and would they be able to register the V5 in the normal timeframe?

Some dealers may be able to deliver the car,so say their ads?

Any recent experience of buying a car while lockdown exists?

I have recently bought 2 s/hand cars . The first one bought the end of March . Dealer sent off the V5 by post . Not seen that one yet . The second , bought from a friend , beginning of April, done the transfer on line , and got the new V5 back within a week.

I suspect there may be problems building up in mail deliveries. SWMBO has waited for a book to arrive which seller says was dispatched weeks ago - in fact she has already been offered a refund.

It is a risk without seeing the car, but seeing as my car might need repairs(hopefully not) the choice is between having a car that needs a repair which is not easy with the lockdown or having a second hand one(again a risk)

Maybe its better to stick with the known devil of my present car?

My local postie said there are absolutely stacks and stacks of mail waiting in depots all round the country to be sorted and delivered. He's walking 12 miles a day as they wont't use some of the vans coz they can't have two people in the van. He's working really hard. They're sending mail from one sorting office to another but it's all building up.

As regards buying a used car unseen and trusting a car dealer to see you right .... more chance of flying to the moon. Such a transaction must be like manna from heaven to a dealer.

I just bought my new 2nd hand car, taxed it an insured it, all online.

My brother in law had bought his car from a dealer, delivered to his house, never seen it except online before he bought it.

No problems whatsoever.

There shouldn't be, on simple probability grounds. But why take the risk of not seeing it first ?

Son bought his last Yaris from Toyota dealer in Macclesfield (RGB?). in 2015. It was described in detail.

They sell lots of cars sight unseen: a no quibble guarantee of money back within 30 days if not as described.

The service he received was excellent.. I can see why they sell cars sight unseen.
