2013 Ford Focus 1.0 125bhp Ecoboost - Reverse gear popping out - Chris Goz

Hi, I've recently just bought a 2013 Ford Focus 1.0 125bhp Ecoboost with only 22k on the clock from a main dealer. I have only been driving it for 2 weeks and have noticed that the reverse gear keeps popping out (about 1 in 5 times) and obviously the lovely grinding sound follows. The only way I can seem to stop it is to make a mental note to apply gentle pressure on the gearstick to stop it from popping out. But surely I shouldn't have to do this. I have taken it back to the dealer and their service guy sat in the car with me to hear it happen twice. They agreed to look at the car over the next few days and they then told me that they couldn't get gear to pop out and insisted they need to hear and feel the car do it to diagnose the problem. But surely the fact the initial service guy heard the gear pop out with me in the car is enough to help diagnose the problem. Having looked on other forums it seems to me it could be a simple fact of adjusting the gear linkage. Is it possible to check that sort of thing without removal of the gearbox, etc.? I feel like I may be being fobbed off but as I bought a 1 year warranty with them, surely they should be doing all they can to fix it.

They should be able to adjust the gear linkage easily enough if they know what they’re doing.

Gearbox removal would be an absolute last resort and very unlikely.
