Peugeot 207 - New back box - Kim Bo

Last week I noticed that bracket at the back of my exhaust was snapped. I took it in to a garage who fitted a new bracket. The next day when going over speed bumps i noticed the exhaust was still scraping over them. I took it back and the man attached a piece to try and lift the exhaust up. Next day same problem with speed bumps. So I went back again and was told that the bracket on the back box was broken and as it had been welded before I would need a new back box. So today I went to get that done and was quite surprised to see that the whole exhaust looks like it has been replaced as I had a chrome tail pipe before. Cam anyone tell me if this is normal practice? It only took him about 10 minutes and when I went today I was expecting it to take a lot longer as I thought it was just the back box that would be replaced. As a female I am concerned I have been ripped off or is this normal?

It's often easier to replace the whole system after the catalytic converter. The various sections can get corroded together and impossible to separate. I doubt if it cost any more. Your chrome tail pipe would have been attached to the back box anyway.

From my experience of Peugeot 306s, 307s and 308s, the hanger bar is welded onto the back box and there is no clamp type bracket as such which would wrap around the back box.

Its usually the first place that these go. Luckily a back box isn't an expensive part.

My indie was able to weld the bracket during a routine service. All sorted.

From my experience of Peugeot 306s, 307s and 308s, the hanger bar is welded onto the back box and there is no clamp type bracket as such which would wrap around the back box.

A couple of years ago my indie told me after my 207SW's MoT test that the rearmost bracket was rusted through. It was a wrap-around one at the rear of the back box. I ordered a new S/S one on the web and fitted it myself the next day. Total cost £15, no welding needed.

But there are several hangers on an exhaust system ...
