Ironic adverts - RT

The dumb software used by this website, and many others, is taking the mickey - even in threads bemoaning the unacceptably poor reliability of model XYZ, the software inserts ads to try tom persuade buyers to buy XYZ.

There are ways of blocking ads , but a website does depend on their income to keep going.

For ad-blocking software (including add-ons [no pun intended] to popular web browsers), check out the following thread which, ironically, you started a couple of weeks ago:

www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/121213/hj-br-intru...e

Somehow I don't think the ad cookie (tracking) software this site and others use is sophisticated enough yet (no AIs running them!) to realise that the person visiting that page is doing so because they are reading tales of woe about a particular vehicle - all it does is see certain words (probably the make and model of the car) and tailor any ads towards them or based on searches you make on the site.

More general words such as 'dislike', 'hate' or ''fault' are not specific enough to be recognised by the software, because they don't know the context in which it is being seen - you may be agreeing that a car is useless because its unreliable, or you may be arguing the opposite: the software isn't intelligent enough to recognise which.

If you're that bothered about these 'tailored' ads, then get the (free) ad-blocker add-ons we mentioned on the other thread - its easy to search for them and install them. They should then, for the most part, disappear, with only the odd one or two minor ones left, which shouldn't be much of a bother.

I do get most ads blocked - some get through - I just thought it ironic that a thread slaggiong off a particular model has an advert added through alleged artificially intelligence, which clearly isn't that clever.
