If it's a chain does it need replacing like cambelt

Very likely to be a chain. Should last the life of the engine.Subject to regular oil and filter changes.

I'd suggest the opposite - it's likely to be the Opel/Vauxhall Family I /Ecotec engine which is definitely belt.

Chain which will wear if the oil and filer aren't changed regulary. Change every 6 months is my recommendation.
