Suzuki Swift 1.0 Boosterjet SZ5 - Suzuki SHVS - Grease_monkey

I went to look at the New Suzuki Swift with the option of purchasing one. I test drove the 1.0 Boosterjet SZ5 which had all the bells and whisltes and was a nice little thing to drive. Reading up on the SHVS system i'm a little concerned that i cannot find anywhere if the SHVS system has got a extended warranty. I remember Smart having problems with there MHD system in there Fortwo's. Suzuki standard warranty is for 3 years.

I'd be part exchanging a Toyota Auris Hybrid which is a good car but not really a drivers car. i'm starting to get bored with it and there would be a considerable insurance saving.

Would Suzuki have done proper R&D on there SHVS system. I'm a suzuki virgin but from what i'm reading, there vehicles are very reliable

Aside from their use of Fiat Diesel engines in recent years Suzuki have a great reputation for reliability. However any new tech comes with risks and this system is still unproven. It's also true that the starter and alternator on these are much more complex and therefore will be hugely costly to replace if they fail outside of warranty. I'd still have confidence certainly up til at least 5yrs that there's little chance anything will cause grief on a Suzuki.

Suzuki, like all others will extend the warranty against payment, and also buy a pay up front service package that provides annual oil changes.
