Yes, that would be the simplest thing. It can join the separate German one which I need to pay for to enter some German cities. I have no doubt other European countries will soon follow, each with their own sticker, and all at reasonable cost.

It strikes me as rather strange (and it is beginning to become infuriating) that France and Germany (and Spain before too long) are each going their own merry way with pollution stickers. Surely the EU can get its act together and set up ONE system for ALL member states (and soon-to-be ex-member states) as they did with blue badges - or am I missing something? A simple, standardised "EU6" sticker, or whatever, in the windscreen as of date "x" isn't rocket science. Exemption for GB and Ireland as the vehicle's year of registration is there on the number plate (year stickers compulsory for those sporting "look at me! "plates, hah!) Confiscation of car and 7 days' prison for anyone using a forged or stolen sticker and voilà, problem solved.

I will probably get the sticker, but if this carries on, anyone driving to say, Italy, might need stickers for:

France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, and Italy

A minor diversion will also end up needing Lichtenstein, Switzerland, and Luxembourg as well.

That is 9 stickers! 9 applications to different places. 9 payments probably, even if small.

And once we have accepted all of that, the price will be increased and the stickers will only be valid for one year.

If we do not complain, we will be stickered into oblivion. :-)
