Peugeot 206 SW - Admiral insurance. Not received any confirmation - escortman24

Hi. Sorry to bother people but I'm a bit worried (ok massively worried). I took out a car insurance policy with Admiral last night for my new car. The payment has gone through (checked bank as well) but I still haven't received any policy confirmation and no certificates etc. It said I would receive them within a few hours but over 24 hours later still nothing. I can't even register to see them online as I haven't had any confirmation with my policy number on.

Just to make my anxiety even worse I've just checked the insurance database and it's showing as not insured. I'm really hoping that Admiral are just a bit slow and it's on the way and being updated but I'm really panicking about this now. Im afraid of losing the car as I've put all my savings into it (may only be a £500 car but when you work for £60 a week it took me a lot of time and effort to save up for)

Has anyone else had any similar problems? I don't know what to do as if I ring them up tomorrow they'll only ask for the policy number and I haven't been given it yet. Can anyone help with advice as I really am scared now.

Thanks in advance

Just call them. They will track it down on their system - have any references (quote number, payment reference for example) at hand.

Be a delay in the system... call them to put your mind at ease.

No need to apologise. Keep calm. You don't have a good reason to be worried. You are not about to lose your car, but don't drive it until you have sorted everything out.

Ring Admiral and they should be able to trace you from your name and address.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the reassurance guys. Probably just my anxiety playing up but ive been with another company for the past 4 years and theyve always sent things instantly. Guess admiral just dont like working on the weekend haha.

Could be any one of a number of reasons - but yes, the fact that it's a weekend, and a bank-holiday weekend at that, probably comes into it.

Just ring them as soon as they open today (from 9:30, it says on the website).

Check your email spam filters - many insurers use email only for documentation and if the filter is set strictly, it could be sat there.

First thing I did was check the spam filters and nothing there. Typical I tried to ring them up and it's all automated. Guess what...they ask you to type in your policy number via the keypad and won't let you go any further unless you do that (which is pretty difficult when they haven't even given me the policy number).

Try the quote number 0333 220 2084 or the "international" number 02920 601294

Thanks manatee. managed to get through to them on the quote number and they put me through to customer service. Turns out it was my fault after all (embarassed much). I'm useless with technology . I was going to use my tiscali email but had problems with it so changed it to my gmail address and yeah apparently it changed the first part of the email address but not the second part so the email address was wrong. Oh well at least they confirmed it was insured and said there must be a delay on the askMID database.

There you are - all sorted. Glad it worked out OK.

I don't think the delay in getting on to the MID database is too worrying as there has always been debate and discussion about the length of time it CAN SOMETIMES take for it to appear. TBH I always carry a paper copy of my certificate in the car just to show willing to a PC who might stop me and not find details showing up for whatever reason. Don't carry driving licence in case I lose it and the MOT is strictly online (although I suppose I could keep the paper confirmation sheet with me but I don't think they can sieze the car from the roadside on the grounds of no MOT showing on their system, whereas the lack of insurance could mean a tow and a bus home)

Don't worry too much, though there's no harm in ringing them to check.

I took out house insurance with Admiral a few years back, in days of yore when there was no facility for accessing a policy online and everything was done through the post on hard copy. When the paperwork didn't arrive within the stated three or four days I panicked and took out cover with another company, fearing that Admiral had messed up.

I rang Admiral to complain and cancel, and was told that the policy was up and running and the paperwork had simply been delayed in the post.

I went back to Admiral for home insurance a couple of years back, and to be honest, I can't fault them, though the rub of what constitutes good insurance cover obviously comes if and when you make a claim.

Edit: I see you've already sorted it. Good news.

Because most insurance cover notes are printed off from the internet, it isn't evidence itself of insurance - but the police will simply ring the insurer specified on the cover note and check.

Of course, if it's not showing on MID it could trigger an ANPR stop so don't have anything else wrong either!
