Any - Side Repeaters - An MOT Requirement - RaineMan

I returned to my car in a near empty car park the other day to find that someone had driven into it. Fortuneately damage is limited to the rear of the drivers side wing although it looks like a wing off job. However, the main point of impact was the repeater. The MOT is due in a few days. Is the repeater an MOT item (there are no jagged edges)? A Goofgle has not given me a clear answer.

Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986 must

be fitted with one side repeater indicator on each

side. Instead of a separate lamp, the side repeater

might be part of the front direction indicator if it

includes a wraparound lens.

If you stand 1 metre to the right or left off the rear bumper, check operation of the front indicator. If you can see the lamp flashing, then you could get away without the wing repeater working. If not, then it needs to work.As long as it is secure and operational, should not be a problem for the mot

Eleckie&a/c doctor, It's all going to depend on the person doing the test, when I used to take cars for SVA tests some were fine with that and others would say they must have side repeaters fitted. One tester would even try and pull the side repeaters out of the front wings with his fingers and would fail it for being insecure if he managed to get them out (and he really used to put alot of effort into it).

Years ago, daughter had a Volvo 340 with repeaters in the bumper. A front end smash required a new bumper and she got one without repeaters.

It failed the next MOT on lack of repeaters, so I fitted some in the wings.

A front end smash required a new bumper and this time she got one with repeaters in the bumper.

That is why you may have seen an old, smashed up 340 with two repeaters each side.

Have now ordered a repeater. Hopefully it will arrive in time for me to fit it!

My Auris has repeaters within the wing mirrors. At the recent MOT test (same garage but a new tester) I was told both repeaters had failed. The parts had to come from Toyota for £80 each. I think there's a good chance that last year, when it passed, one of them had already failed. That was a different tester though....
