Renault Symbol 1.6 L - Renault Symbol 1.6 not cranking when hot - Marko Ramstedt

My daughter has a Nissan Platina (Renault Symbol in disguise) with a 1.6L engine. It's an automatic.



The problem is that it will not crank at all when hot, starts up perfectly when cold or cool and can be driven all day long.

Repairs done so far:

- Replaced battery
- Replaced starter and cabling
- Installed heat protection on starter
- Swapped around relays in the engine bay

Suspect: Some sensor inhibiting cranking?

Even if hot and will no start, the fan seems not to be running either, until once today, but did not repeat.

Instrument cluster temp gauge seems to work just fine

All help appreciated.

Neither are models sold in the UK. Suggest you find a Nissan or Renault forum in a market where the cars are sold for an answer.

Assuming it's the same engine as used in the Megane/Scenic it's fairly common for the crank position sensor to cause symptoms like this, often it's the connection itself so removing it and giving it a little clean before reattaching could be all you need.

Can't see how a CAS can cuse non crank,

Non starting yes,

So I'd be looking at the other end from where you've been looking,

So ignition key switch or what ever system this uses.

And what's the ststus of the anti theft system?
