Peugeot 206 - Peugeot 206 1.1 8v new clutch fitted but no gears - Matthew Broomfield

Hi can anyone help, I bought the 206 needing a new clutch, then I fitting the new clutch kit all 3 pieces, I saw that the thrust bearing was shattered, so I was happy to continue with the job. Now when the engine is off I can get it in all the gears but with the engine running I can only get it in 5th. In 5th the clutch work as it should. The car was parked up for about 5 yrs before hand. Any help would be great. Thanks

Sounds like the gearbox is coming out again. Sure you fitted the centre plate the right way round?

No now you come to mention it I don't remember doing the final check before fitting as my neighbour distracted me. So let's do the job again. Many thanks for you reply.

Before pulling the box out check that you have all three external selector rods fitted securly.

Ok help still needed, i have just checked but the clutch plate is the right way, so any ideas on where to go next. Thanks matt

What's the condition of the "guide bush"?

That's the part bolted onto the gear box that the release bearing slides on.

In fact I routinely renew this bush on all peugeot clutch changes.

Just another thought,

You can remove the pressed steel end plate off the box and this will give axcess to #5 gear and syncro/selector.

then you could operate the gear selector and check for selector movement.

Obviously the selector should move the gear in and out.

Thanks for your reply, I managed to spend yesterday on the car, It must have been down to the car not being used for 6 years. The gear was very dry when I had a look. So with gentle use it is now working well. Many thanks.

"Result"!!

They're slightly unusual syncros on these.

Conical tapers so I can see how it could lock.

So fill the box with oil and it should be fine.
