mini one 2006-2013 - run flat tyres - nicnac

Hi,

Do all minis come with run flat tyres. I have a mini one 2012 and a couple of years ago when the tyres were changed a mini dealer told me they were run flat tyres. However i went to Kwik fit recently and was told they were not run flat tyres. The tyres are Contipremium contact 2 175/65R15 84 H

Thanks,

If they are run flat it will say so on the tyres. Different makes use different names but it will be easy to spot.

Continental do Conti premium cantact 2 but these are self sealing tyres rather than runflat. They work well.

Dealers have a habit of telling you what you want to hear.

KwikFit have a habit of giving you the most expensive option first.

On that basis I would ask Continental themselves to clarify

I would have expected your handbook to have told you whether or not RFTs were standard. Failing which, the tyre pressure label on the slam panel.

Run-flats weren't standard on any of the Mini Coopers that SWMBO had, nor on the Mini One. The ride was quite hard enough without run-flats to make it worse.

Someone could have fitted them later. I'm not sure when you say 'when the tyres were changed a mini dealer told me they were run flat tyres' - you're referring to the old or the new ones. If it was the new ones it should have been clear on the invoice; if it was the old ones you should have been asked if you wanted run-flats again.

Avant, agree that run flats were not standard on the Mini One but if they were fitted as an option they should still be fitted unless the insurers say its OK to revert back to standard tyres. It also critclal that standards and run flats are not mixed. If run flats are fittes it is a legal requirement for a working TPMS to be fitted, non compliance with this should be an MOT failure.

Our 2005 Cooper S had run flats as standard as does a mates 2009 Cooper S. The ride on ours was dreadful (185 55 16) and when the mate replaced all 4 tyres last year he checked with his insurer who said it was fine to fit non-runflats. He saved quite a tidy sum and inproved the ride and feel of the car, but his is on stupid 18" wheels.
