Toyota Avensis T4 Petrol 1.8 2005 - Toyota Avensis - Residesinsurrey

Hi Everyone , I having trouble with my stero system ! When I switch on the stero be it radio or CD , it plays fine for a minute and then there is static , its actually worse with CD . Has anyone come across this problem any ideas on what it can be . I am hoping in the next weeks to change stero for one with a Bluetooth . The man at Halifords said that this will be a problem because of the fascia so a new system will not fit properly and so I am better off keeping the one I have ! It this correct .

I replaced the stereo in our 2006 Avensis a couple of years ago with a double DIN unit. I bought a fitting kit for it which had a shaped surround that replicated the shape of the existing unit and the climate control unit clipped to the bottom of it. Halfords ordered it for me when I bought the new stereo. I also needed a wiring harness conversion kit.

I re-used the steel brackets that held the original unit in place rather than the DIN cage, there were screw holes in the sides of the new unit in exactly the right place.

You need a facia adapter unit, this will take a standard din stereo of your choice. You will also need a wiring harness adapter as Gary T says. This mates the Toyota harness with the new stereo.

The wiring harness adaptor will have to be matched with your stereo choice, a Sony harness for a Sony stereo for example. They all have different pin arrangements in the plugs.

When I had my Avensis I changed the original for a DAB unit, it worked fine, plus I had MP3 input.

I can't remember how I dismantled the dash to bolt the new facia in but I'm sure there will be a Youtube video or something.

When i did a (simpler) swap of head unit in the family Aygo i found facia adaptors and wiring loom adaptors online to be less than half the typical retail park accessory shop price.

It might be worth re-seating the multiway connections at the back of the unit before spending any money. A quick squirt with contact cleaner as well if you can get to them. You will be amazed at how many faults are caused by dodgy connections.
