Inconsiderate Parking with a twist - Again!!!! - oldroverboy.

I live at the top left corner of a T shaped close, and was expecting a delivery today from a 6 wheeler bringing a load of timber and gravel. Normally the bin lorries can squeeze in with people parked on one side of the vertical bit of the T, but cannot when people park on the footpath on the opposite side of the road, which can cause problems for anything bigger than a big twin rear wheel type van, but most of the time it is ok.

As I was waiting outside for the delivery driver, a lady (who I did not know) drove in and parked her car on the path but partly onto the road, and when o sid " Hullo" can you move your car to the side (onto the footpath) (please) as i had a large lorry turning up, and didn't want her car to be damaged I received some of the worst abuse I have ever had from one of the (fairer?) opposte sex. She walked off, but returned a few minutes later when the delivery lrry arrived and moved it, to which I said thank you, and got more abuse. Delivery driver shocked....

Courtesy got me nowhere!

I've always thought it was wrong to close the hospitals/refuges/asylums/sanctuary call them what you will where people with mental health issues could be accomodated for their own and other's safety, your new found mate sounds like a bit of help wouldn't go amiss.

Nothing surprises me with people anymore. I've had many threats from car and van drivers when I've spoken to them politely.

My favorite incident was on the South Circular when I wanted to turn right and was waiting for a road worker to move the cones so I could turn into a side road when an oncoming stupid person decided to stop and then give me a mouthful of abuse about how I was causing people behind me to be held up (obviously too stupid to realise he was doing the same to all the people behind him for no good reason). What he failed to notice was his shouting abuse was getting the attention a policewoman standing on the pavement who then came over and had a few words with him :) It really made my day.

What worries me is the way that people are so easily prompted to go into "abuse" mode at the slightest provocation. I recently applied a light toot of my horn to alert a reversing motorist coming out of a parking bay, only to be called a host of horrendous unpublishable names. Why?

Usually it's the ones in the wrong that start getting angry and abusive.

Know how you feel as I live in a similar cul de sac which has become festooned with neighbours cars despite all the houses having off street parking.

Part of my property includes a side garden which visitors had taken to parking on and when politely telling them it is my garden, just getting ignorance and indifference.

So I bought some great garden posts I found on line and some caravan red \ white reflectors. Installed them and blow me if within 5 days, neighbour's daughter who cant reverse knock one out. So replaced it and a couple of nights later, noticed her attempting to reverse off her drive and heading straight for the same post!

I went outside and said she needed to stop and go more to the right else she'd hit the post again. She's effing and blinding so I said she can swear all she wants but Im not moving until she reverses out without hitting the post.

Had to laugh as she then switched off the engine and said, 'Im not moving' to which I replied 'Neither am I!'

The stand off lasted about 15 minutes before she phoned her brother (in the house!) and got him to reverse the car.

Had a word with her mother who was very apologetic so now the daughter leaves her car elsewhere in the cul de sac now (not affecting anyone's access).

Sorry to read of your experience oldroverboy. It is a sad indictment of the lack of manners, courtecy and basic respect that seems to abound these days. A chap who uses my local uses a brilliant ploy to shake up inconsiderate drivers. He too lives in a cul-de-sac with limited road width. When some idiot double parks he goes out and starts photgraphing the car. When is asked (usually impolitely) what he is doing he replies ' Just so the council tow truck gets the correct vehicle'. He then says 'Didn't you see the signs?' What effing signs? The tow away zone signs when you enter the village. Because of limited access there needs to be a clear road for emergancy vehicles at all times. There are no signs of course but it always works and they move their vehicles. Maybe worth a try next time. Cheers Concrete

I live in a short cul-de-sac close to the end of a long one. When either of two nearby churches have an event on, their visitors park on both sides of the long cul-de-sac, making access for large vehicles difficult and often impossible. A fireman told me recently that they are allowed to drive a fire engine down there to an emergency without regard for the sides of the cars - as they should, in my opinion.

That reminds me of something I saw as a kid, I was in Tesco with a neighbour and there was an old man and his wife moaning about the time it was taking to get served. When we got outside a D type Ford truck had done a tin opening job on the side of his bright yellow Mk3 cortina with the wheelnuts on it's front wheel, he went from being miserable to being really miserable.

Some the parking on estates in villages and towns has to be seen to be believed, i'm only surprised the fire tenders haven't been fitted with strong steel bull bars and side guards so they can get to fires prontowithout damaging the tender itself regardless of how stupidly parked so many cars are now.

On the same vein how the parcel lads cope day in day out with often over 100 deliveries and collections in an 8'6" wide vehicle i do not know, should be medals issued all round i couldn't do it, i always try to let those lads go whenever possible, we have may parcels delivered and the vast majority of them are decent sticks.

I'm with you there, I think I'm hard done by if I have 4 drops on the same trailer. I'm never that pushed for time and I still find it bad enough going into some tight places.

I won't let it drop that once i've blown 28 tons of flour into the one silo and that dull thud on the tank becomes a hollow boing, that i'm going home empty then...

When we lived in Sunny Carmarthen, a car had parked very inconsiderately on a corner and the driver of a large vehicle was struggling to get past, so I offered to guide him... He declined till i said "you'll get a bus through there.". and that was what he was driving... said thank you with a toot!

I was most imoressed with the bus driver negotiating his way down from The Great Orme.

A chicane of parked cars that would have fazed the drivers of many smaller vehicles.
