VW GOLF MK6 1.6TDI - VW Warranty Woes - anst18

I purchased a used VW Golf MK6 from VW dealer - White Rose Petersfield in Dec 2015. When purchasing the car, I questioned the duration of the Das Welt Auto Warranty included as I was under the impression it was a 2 year warranty. However the salesman confirmed it was in fact a 12 month warranty included in the price of the car. This is reflected on my order form for the car and other documents I received with the car. This month the car began going into limp mode and I had it diagnosed elsewhere that the EGR Valve needed replacing (mileage at 98,000). As I was aware my warranty expired in Dec 2016 I paid out of my own pocket for the repair at a local independent garage totalling £551.79!

Fast forward 3 weeks and I drop off my car at Listers VW Leamington Spa for a minor service. During conversation the gentleman from the service team mentioned my car still being under warranty (?!) and then confirmed this by showing me on their system that it doesn't expire until Dec 2017. I questioned if the EGR Valve is covered by the warranty which he informed me it is! I asked what I could do to try and resolve having spent £550 on a repair which was actually covered under the warranty, unknown to me, and he directed me to call their customer services line as they couldn't do anything there.

I am yet to get in contact with VW as I wanted to ask for advice on what actions to take if they try and wriggle out of this situation with anything less than a full reimbursement. Obviously I will prepare the invoice for the replacement EGR Valve and the documentation my end stating my warranty has expired, perhaps I could try and get proof of the 2 year warranty from the Leamington dealer too?

Any thoughts would be great. Thanks!

Really weird that a VW dealer selling their own make used cars doesnt know how long the remaining warranty was for!

I think this would need legal help to sort out. As you paid outside the dealer network for the repair, I can see everyone going "aint my problem!"

What needs to be resolved is, did the car have a warranty beyond December 2016 (might be on the system as so but could that warranty be transferred?), was the required work covered by the warranty (indication is yes) and if so, who if anyone is going to make good your financial loss.

VW UK warranty is 3 years

Years 1 & 2 is unlimited mileage warranty (European VWs have only 2 year warranty in many countries)

3rd Year Warranty is limited to 60,000 miles.

OP needs to look at original date of registration & do the arithmetic on the dates & the mileage!! 98K is a fair mileage in under2.5 years!!!

Ford 3 year warranty is 12 months & insured warranty for years 2&3..........how do Ford & VW think they can get away with that when others - Toyota/Honda/Hyundai & Kia offer much better warranties.

People do not buy rationally. Period.

I was in charge of Purchasing for a short period in my life. If I wree a Purchasing Manager buying cars, any makers offering less mileage cover than theiir competitors would nvere be considered. Period.

The fact that VW/Ford are two of the largets sellers of cars in Europe tells you all you need to know about people buying their cars.
