VW Touareg - 2012 diesel Touareg should I worry? - shamo75

I'm ready to buy a replacemt car and whilst my 2004 audi would likely qualify for the scrappage scheme I am not buying a new car so won't benefit. My concern is will my propsed 2011/12 Touareg shed its vaule soon based on the new hatred of diesels? looking to spend 13k ish and would be gutted to lose 40% in a year as I've read in press. Briefly looked at petrol q5. Any thoughs or am I worrying unnecessarily? cheers folks

Touaregs are a £45,000+ car when new so at 5-6 years old will have lost most of it's value by now anyway, reflected in your £13k budget. At that age, it would be Euro 5 but who knows when restrictions might reach that far.

The 2010-13 Touareg is the most economical - the later version is Euro 6 which gives worse real world consumption but better official tests.

Indulge yourself and get the V8 TDi.

Just to add to RTs comments. If a prospective car has had the emissions fix go carefully because a lot of cars are having problems after it. Poor mpg, DPF and EGR valve, more engine noise ect.

A good source of info is facebook at "Wolkswagen diesel Customer (emissions scandel)"

Do your homework and drive it plenty before signing If it from a VW dealer make sure they dont do the fix after a test drive but befor you pick it up. Sneeky Bs

Good advice - but not applicable to Touareg as it's diesels are V6, V8 or V10 - recent ones using Adblue.

VW got into bother by not using Adblue on the 4-cylinder "cheaper" models - it's those needing "fixes" which are creating subsequenr issues.

Sorry I seem to keep contradicting you RT. I dont mean to. A number of cars that use Adblue under EURO5 are still needing fixed. I have one, its a Sharan and some later Passates and Tiguans are the same. At first I thought I was unaffected because of the Adblue but when I put my vin to the VW sit I was told it needed fixed. Have since learned they push the fuel pressure up a good bit needing a fuel injector danper and increase the use of Adblue, ( you get free Adblue) as well as the remap. The Adblue may mean the effect of the fix is less drastic than in others but Im staying well clear till I know for sure.

I never mind being contradicted with accurate information - my main point was that the larger TDi engines in Touareg aren't being recalled for fixes in Europe - they still can't be sold in North America though.

My Euro 6 Touareg 3.0 TDi uses Adblue at the rate of 1.67% of the diesel used (my figures) - what rate does your Sharan use it?

Only 10L in 16000 miles. I actually thought something was wrong with it because it used so little so asked the dealer at its service and they said its down to driving conditions, higher speeds seem to use more and hard driving uses more. Mine is at the low end of what they see. Most of my miles are on open roads in a 50 limit so gives it an easy life.
