Toyota Avensis - Buying a Toyota Avensis - Residesinsurrey

After much deliberation , I have decided to buy a Toyata Avensis this weekend .

After doing a search on vehicle MOT history , I found out that it hasnt had a failed MOT in three years and before that it was a Headlamp was too low and tyres below legal limit .

It has had 1 previous owner , Mileage 104000, MOT till March/April 2018 and a 3month warranty. Its being sold by a dealer .

All for the princely sum of £950

What are people 's thoughts on this car, does it sound like it is worth looking at ?

Many thanks !

No reason why it won't provide reliable service for many years. These are very robust motors. The 1.8 VVT tends to drink a bit of oil so you'll need to check it regularly but 200k is possible with regular servicing.

Don't expect much from the warranty, it's not going to be worth much at this age, mileage and price and the car seems a little too cheap but there's little to fear from a well maintained old petrol Avensis.

Just watch for cars that have never been serviced, they're tough so some owners treat them like white goods and don't touch them unless something breaks plus they're popular as taxis so be careful you're not buying an ex taxi with the mileage wound back.

Nothing soldiers on quite like an old Toyota, except perhaps an old Volvo. You're buying from a dealer, so you'll have some protection in law, and as it's not a diesel you've a good chance of getting something with plenty of life left in it.

SLO76 will probably be along with helpful suggestions about things to look out for, as there are on any car. I seem to remember reports of high oil consumption on this engine, but as you're paying under £1,000 you can afford to top it up from time to time.

Good luck!

I forgot to mention that the car is 2006.

Thought I would mention the age , in case it makes a difference,

Many thanks for your advice!

I've got a 2007 Avensis - 1.8 petrol estate. 107k at the moment. Goes well, serviced annually but not pampered. Do the checks as mentioned above and should be good to go. 2006 (normally 56 reg on) would hopefully be a facelift version (smoked front lights, indicators in door mirrors) Toyota made some other upgrades at this point.
