New program owners policies go against the grain, so Ed leaves.

I admire his principles.

Sounds like it will become yet another dumbed down car show like Car SOS! I am fed up with TV that assumes we all have the attention spans of goldfish. When will someone make a series based on restoring a single car going into real detail?

Couldn't agree with you more RaineMan.

The current show has a nice balance throughout and enough pace to maintain interest. It is a fine balance between sufficient detail and entertainment content and Mike and Ed have a nice and easy manner. I For one would like to see more technical details of the restorations but may not be for everyone. I think the show will be poorer when we lose Ed.

There used to be a program called Salvage Squad with Suggs from Madness as the presenter. They restored quite a few interesting machines, not just cars. I really liked it, especially the genuine outbursts of frustration when something wasn't going to plan!

My favourite car programme. Some good factual content and fascinating seeing some of my first cars being renovated to stay on the road. Some lovely classic cars there.

Ed China clearly has a gift working his magic on some of the cars Mike Brewer throws at him. He makes everything look so easy and straight forward and we know life's not like that. Would love to see some of the bits on the cutting room floor! Costly mistakes, misdiagnosis, nightmare sourcing parts not to mention skinned knuckles.

Do you think Mikes choice of car is rehea***d or is it really a surprise to Ed?

Anyhow, I am sad we are going to lose Ed and that the programme will now feature less of the oily bits and more on light entertainment. We will see.

Edd China is a total genius no doubt, but i have to say, i got fed up of wheeler dealer some time ago. The problem for me is Mike Brewer. I can put up with him in small doses, but mostly i find him deeply irratating. He seems to milk the 'cheeky chirpy cockney' act to death. Most of the 'haggling' appears to have been scripted (and badly acted out), and at various points through the show, he will mention about the work 'him' and Edd have done to the car. When in fact, he hasnt done anything other than some 'on screen' obtaining of parts, which in most cases, Edd could have got with a phone call.

Car SOS was mentioned, and yes, that is another show which irritates the hell out of me, much as i like Fuzz. As with wheeler dealers, it is 'the other guy' which is the problem, specifically the ridiculous pantomine Tim goes through getting parts or services. The show producers must think the viewers are really thick (or are children) to find that convincing or entertaining. And why is there always a time limit?. If the car has been sitting derelict in a barn or shed for 20 years, why does it then have to be finished in a few weeks?. Also, i think Tim must get a bonus if he gets a particularly emotional reaction at the end, after the car has been handed over, the way he goes on and on and asking how the car owner is feeling, and is it going to make their life better.

Did you see when Edd cracked the bubble top of the messerschmitt bubble car?

It's a good job Edd's time in fixing up the cars was free. An episode I saw the other week featured a TVR Cerbera, bought for £8,000. It needed a complete new chassis and suspension, plus other sundries, making a total parts cost of £5,500.

Mike Brewer sold the car for £14,000. £500 'profit' after a complete body-off, engine-out rebuild is not a sustainable business model.

I think you're missing the point. Its not about a business model, its about a hobby.

That episode worried me. Where would you find a second hand TVR chassis? I suspect it came from a crash damaged car. Evidenced perhaps by the fact it had to be 'sprung' into place on the body. I wonder how 'straight' the subsequent car was?

I lost interest when the yanks got involved. It was an interesting and very informative show whenever Ed was onscreen and even Mike would offer some good advice on finding and negotiating on used cars - I frequently disagreed with his thinking but he was looking for cars with issues that value could be added to with a refresh or restoration.

Then when filming shipped to the US it became less about the mechanical side and more about Mike's cheeky chap personality. The cars were no longer relevant to most Brits and there was little to be learned from Ed's 5mins under the hood.

Even Mikes negotiations lost any drama. He seemed to stop making any effort to negotiate on buying or selling. Perhaps this is how the market is in the US, I don't know but the show has little to offer its original market.

Time to return to your roots Ed? Always watchable and hopefully he'll return to the screen under the bonnet of some tatty old 80's/90's modern classics again.

Anyone remember the series "a car is born - cobra" & "An MG is born"

They were quite a few other ones

A bit long winded but quite detailed

Something along those lines with Ed would be interesting

According to Edd China, Mike Brewer has received death threats over what is happening to Wheeler Dealers:

FFS, it's only a TV show - absolutely unbelieveable what some people will do!

I liked WD. It wasn't as good when they went to the USA and of course they seldom factored in Ed's labour time. I preferred the workshop time to the buying and selling parts so maybe Ed could have his own show just doing the oily bits.
