For me it has to be the Range Rover - especially the vulgar customised ones where they replace the bonnet ridge lettering with O V E R F I N C H or R E V E R E. Yes yes, very clever. Reminds me of the old "You've just been NOVA-taken!" stickers on the back of crappy old Vauxhalls.

It's possible the drivers of these sheds have coloured my judgement...

I think the least, least classy of the 'modified' bonnet lettering I've seen was 'M O V E O V E R'

Just goes to show that money and class don't go hand in hand.

The most wealthy person I know (who owns a sizable chunk of Worcestershire and Shropshire) has 2 cars. A Subaru Legacy, and a 'standard' LR Defender County.

It does have to be said that I've seen tramps who dress better than him though.

Overfinch was a firm that until recently sold performance and spec upgrades for Range Rovers, their haydays were the 80's & 90's when Range Rovers were rather slow and cumbersome things. They upgraded the suspension and fitted stonking American V8's to turn them into the first real performance SUV's but suffered as more modern factory built cars became faster and better equipped.

If you see an Overfinch badge on a bonnet it's highly unlikely to have been stuck on by a tasteless owner having a laugh and is more likely to be the real thing. A very expensive high performance Range Rover.

I know, what I'm saying is to me it just looks tacky.

Money shouts, class whispers.

Overfinch was probably the equivalent to SVR today - highly respected I recall.

Overfinch are still going. But these days they do chavvy bodykits, 'ruched' interiors, and blingy wheels. Oh, and 'jewelled finish bonnet lettering'. Their words, not mine, from their own website.

They don't do anything at all in terms of 'performance' upgrades for modern vehicles. Just the chavvy stuff.

The firm went bust in 2010 and another mob simply bought the name which right enough they use to sell often tacky crap for people with more cash than sense.

The origional classic Overfinch Range Rover was actually quite subtle. Simply stiffened up suspension and a 5.7 V8 with a few tweaks and a horrific fuel bill...

I've a copy of Autocar somewhere with a test between one and a similar rival tuning firms conversion. Both were well regarded but costly.

A few automotive examples of "mutton dressed as lamb" come to mind, many of which I first discovered in the pages of the annual Daily Express "Cars of the Year" magazine (IIRC), which was a regular Christmas stocking filler in my teenage years.
Panther's Rio is high in the top ten, along with the goofy-grilled Vanden Plas "Princess". I also remember some utter monstrosities sold under the Stutz brand - There was once one with exhaust pipes running down the side doors.
For more recent efforts, see the Aston Martin Cygnet and Mitsuoka Viewt, which gets a bonus prize for an utterly stupid model name!

About twenty years ago I was on holiday at in a fairly remote part of Cornwall. A fellow guest had an Overfinch and showed me around it. It was an impressive piece of kit with improved performance, off-road ability and towing capacity (he owned a rather large boat). Since then they have gone the same route as Kahn blinging rather than improving. The worst blinged Range Rover I ever saw was an Onyx that just screamed Essex!

What does screaming Essex mean?

Screaming Essex was when the boat fell off the trailer on the A12 northbound yesterday.
