Vauxhall Corsa - 07 1.0ltr Corsa - Paul Jacobson

Hi All

Recently had problems with the heating and air blowing through the vents in the car (1.0 ltr 07 plate corsa) happened 3 times (water leak somehere)

Then this weekend oil light has come on and been told that the oil is like water

Thinks there is a possible head gasket failure on the way. They have quoted 400-600 for the replacement head gasket.

Just wondering is it worth scrapping/selling or actually getting it fixed think the car is only worth 800-1000 anyway at a push

any advice welcomed as i have no clue when it comes to cars

Borderline really. Assuming it's tidy enough and runs ok and there's no rattling timing chain you'd get £800-£1,200 selling it privately but you could just as easily spend £600-£700 and something else fails. If funds are tight and you can't borrow what else would you get for under £1,000 that's going to be much better though?

I'd probably agree that it's not worth repairing. The 1.0 is notorious for suffering from rattling/stretched timing chains and isn't well liked by the trade. You'd likely fix it on the cheap and it would either be done badly and cause further problems or something else will go pop.

If you can aford to buy a newer car at a dealer then many large firms don't even drive trade ins of this value. I got £1,300 for my sister in laws knackered Fiat Punto at our local Vauxhall dealer last week on a heavily discounted new Corsa because they were daft enough not to drive it or look under the hood. I also got £500 for the other halfs Pug 106 I was going to scrap a few years back against a nice cheap Civic again because the salesman didn't bother checking it over... engine was ready to seize. You might get away with it but this relies on your ability to aford a newer motor.
