Hyundai i10 - Oil spec.

Hyundai i10 - Oil spec. - Doc

For the last 6 years I have been using Castrol ACEA A1/B1 5w/30 spec. oil which was recommended on the Castrol site. I have just purchased some Magnatec which says on the can is suitable for A1/ B1 and A5/B5. (The new recommendation is A5)

But the Shell and Mobil sites gives the recommendation as ACEA C3.


What is the difference and does it matter which I use?

A5/B5 replaced A1/B1 years ago, basically the same spec but included long life.

C3 is a diesel spec for cars with DPF and is long life.

But most oils cover both diesel and petrol specs.

What does your handbook say? its the best place to look.

A- was petrol and B- was diesel, both are effectively obsolete and gradually being replaced by C- covering all cars and light vans, but the number part isn't a straight switch.

C3 is needed for diesels with DPF but increasingly being specified for cars, some of which are getting DPFs.

Handbook says "ACEA A3 or higher"

Under the bonnet of my wifes I10 it states Shell C3.I use Shell Helix Professional

AG 5w30 Fully Synthetic,which Shell recommend

There's is a consumer issue with Shell Helix - there's about 20 different specifications as really Shell Helix simply means car oil from Shell - you may well have got the right version of Shell Helix but always worth double-checking.
