Not my fault! - Road deaths in Essex up 43% - Engineer Andy

To be fair to those the 'report' 'blames', the number of casualaties has dropped significantly - its just bad luck that of those, more of them died than before, possibly due to the severity of the crash or other factors outside the authorities' control, such as speed, weather, etc.

The only ones that would, in my view, be a factor is a) the response time of the emergency services (including how long from the time of the accident to getting to an appropriate hospital and be treated) and b) the quality of care in hospital. I doubt if the roads themeselves would've changed that much to lead to such an increase in death, as surely the 'seriously injured' rate would've increased as well, when it didn't.

Like many media reports, this one doesn't really bring much new information to the issue other than the raw figures, which, without context, are meaningless.

Not a surprise at all, again it's being blamed on mobile phones and not wearing seat belts. Why not tell the truth and say it's because they drive and ride like maniacs. Might help if people stopped tailgating in the m****ic mindset that their car has abs and assisted braking so they can drive 2 feet from the car in front at 60 mph.

As the roads get ever more crowded as the country's population goes way past what is actually manageable, people crammed ever tighter to all fit in the same roadspace and still trying to cover their journeys in the same times they would have done 30 years ago.

Somethings going to give sooner or later.

Most of Essex believes that the LAW and the laws of physics dont apply to them.

In Norfolk there is the same problem with the addition that they like to drive down the middle of the road, which is where they are used to driving with the pony and trap, or tractor.

I think that goes for anywhere, I find on my travels a lot of drivers have the o/s wheels on or over the white line, and usualy have to make sudden steering adjustments to avoid cars from opposite direction

I have also noticed some drivers turning left have a habit of steering toward middle of the road before they turn left, it often causes the driver coming the other way to swerve because it appears the other car is heading towards them

Not to mention most drive too fast for the road they are on! regardless of weather

What does anyone expect now that cars themselves increasingly take control, no skills needed to blast along or take corners at stupid speeds, overcook it the car sorts it all out via umpteen three letter acronym systems.

How many do you see who know how to overtake, jammed right up the back of a large vehicle having to go right out beyond the crown of the road to see past and then accelerate to overtaking speed in an instant, clueless, that why they need 150+ bhp per ton because they do not know how to drive.

Can't even work out when lights or wipers need to be switched on far too busy with infotaiment, automatic braking now needed cos they don't know how to stop it despite brakes being better than they ever have been, suppose this constant dumbing down will eventually end up with the car driving itself fully...when we reach the year 4545 (remember the song?) or whichever millenia it was, they may well have arms hanging loosely by their sides.

I agree with most of that, but anti collision and brake assist are as much a protection for you as the idiot driving like a lunatic, as I have found out,had I had an older car I suspect it would have been written off a couple of times due to others going mad

The rest really we dont need if you drive sensibly.

I found some of the comments after the newspaper article sad and hilarious at the same time!
