2/5

+Smart styling. The Vi is quick and economical, the 1.6 CVT responsive. Feels compact in town yet comfortable on the motorway.

-Patchy build quality. Head gaskets can fail on 'K' Series engines. Overly light steering.

Starting problems with a Rover 214

"I have a Rover 214 SEI which won't start. It pours petrol into bores on cranking, causing the plugs to foul."
So does it start eventually? There could be many things at fault which will stop the engine from starting. 1. So you have a strong spark at the plugs (ie is the ignition system okay)? 2. Air intake/ Vacuum leaks (check all pipes and connections) 3. ECT (engine coolant temp sensor) 4. MAP (manifold absolute pressure sensor) 5. IAC (idle air control valve) 6. The Injectors. 7. ECU (engine control unit) Regards

Replacing a Rover 200 with a spacious small car

"I have owned a brilliant Rover 200 for over 12 years. Can you please suggest a replacement which is not more than six inches longer and, with the child seat removed and back seats folded down, capable of carrying two adults, a set of golf clubs and two drop handlebar bicycles (with front wheels removed) inside the hatchback boot."

Best route to selling

"I have two very different cars to sell and would appreciate your advice as to the best route for each. A 13 year old Rover 214 in exceptionally good condition and only 13,000 miles on the clock. A '59 reg Audi A4 2.0 diesel sportline spec in fine condition with 30,000 miles on the clock. It's difficult to value the Rover, because a buyer is unlikely to place much value on the life left in it simply because it is so old. "

Rover 214 1995 engine not starting

"The battery went flat on my Rover so i removed it and charged it up. When putting the battery back in and connecting this up the engine would not start. I turn the key and the engine turns over it just doesn't start - there are normally three lights on the dash board that light up (Oil, Battery and a third - which i am not sure what it is, maybe engine?) the third one doesn't light up - would you know what has caused this or what this light is?"
