I've had no claims on my Mauritian licence, why do British insurers still class me as a new driver?

I've been driving for the past 10 years on a Mauritian licence. I never had any accidents or made claims. I got my UK licence this year. However, I'm quoted on the insurance as a rookie driver, which I feel is a little bit harsh. All the rules, like driving on the left side of the road, are the same.

Unfortunately not, your driving history for insurance purposes is based on your driving history here, not in Mauritius. You can contact specialist brokers to see if they will consider the circumstances though, you may find one that does.
