Should I trade-in my diesel Volkswagen Passat for a petrol model via a scrappage scheme?
My Volkswagen Passat Estate 2.0 TDI is six years old with 55,000 miles done, in good condition and DPF in good order. When would be sensible to replace it? Volkswagen is offering £6500 scrappage against a new car. So, £20,000 for a similar - but petrol - vehicle minus scrappage. Alternatively, a low mileage/ex-demo (petrol) car with any residual trade-in value of the Passat. Your advice is very welcome.

That's not really 'scrappage'. It's a standard, fairly generous part-exchange offer. Our system values it at just £5390 as a part-exchange: www.honestjohn.co.uk/used-prices/Volkswagen/Passat...i
But you have to look at the whole picture. What could you get for the car from Evans Halshaw or webuyanycar.com or wewantanycar.com And what sort of discount could you get from the Volkswagen dealer buying new for cash. If you can get a £4000 - £5000 discount for cash, then better to sell your car separately. The sooner you do it the better deal you will get because new car prices in the UK are set to rise considerably.
