I need to replace my Hyundai Terracan with something cheaper to run - would a Skoda Scout be suitable?
I have a Hyundai Terracan 2.9CRDT manual. It has 118,000 miles on the clock, I'm lucky if it is worth £4000. The Terracan does 22-24mpg and I need something with better fuel economy, reasonable ground clearance and 4WD for use offroad and on rough farm tracks. A dealer has offered me a new Skoda Scout petrol 1.8 TSI at £16,999 for immediate delivery. The 1.8TSi petrol does 44mpg and the diesel 2-litre version does 55mpg (which cuts my fuel bill by 50 per cent immediately) but there's a 6-month waiting list. What is your advice? Are there alternatives to the Skoda that match the price, economy and offroad capability that I should consider?

The 1.8TSI 160 may be certifies at 44mpg but it did less than 30 in the Yeti I tested, and I'm not lead footed. I think you're forced to stay with diesel.
