Considering the diesel backlash, should I buy a diesel Jaguar X Type?

I'm currently working overseas, but upon my return to the UK next year I plan to buy myself a nice 2008/2009 diesel Jaguar X Type. I owned one of these when I was last back in the UK and it was fantastic. Luxurious, quiet, reliable, and economical - all done with Jaguar grace. Recently, I've been reading a lot about the demise of diesels, and schemes to scrap your old cars (particularly diesels). Should I buy one and, if I do, how long would I be allowed to keep it? I'm getting on now and, as a retired chap with no family, I don't expect to be doing much mileage. But when I go to the supermarket, or out for a drive in the country, I want to do it in style - the Jaguar does this for me.

Big moves afoot to scrap older diesels and the car manufacturers have taken it as an opportunity to introduce their own scrappage schemes: www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/buying-and-selling/2017-.../

From autumn 2019, diesels older than EU6 will be banned from a lot of city centres and other places and an X-Type diesel is EU4 at best. There is also a possibility of some punitive taxation coming in the Autumn budget, but I don't think that will be too bad because if it was there would be riots in the streets. Poor people with older diesels are too hard pressed as it is. Over the last six months, used diesels have dropped in value about 5 per cent more than they would have done normally.
