Does my Ford Mondeo have a blocked catalytic converter?

I have the 2.0-litre petrol 2001 Ford Mondeo Duratec. It has suddenly started to misfire and bring out an awful eggy smell, then the engine light came on and it started to run roughly. I've replaced the spark plugs, leads and the coil pack, but now it wont even start. The only thing I can think of now is a blocked cat?

Worst case scenario is that the inlet manifold swirl flaps broke off and got ingested by the engine. But the misfire you describe will have destroyed the catalytic converter and possibly blocked the exhaust system.
