Can I use winter tyres on my Audi RS4 in the French Alps?

I am driving to the French Alps this winter and am visiting several ski resorts. I have a 2007 Audi RS4 and am concerned about icy/snowy roads. It is my understanding that all cars must carry snow chains if applicable in French ski resorts. Unfortunately it seems that snow chains will not fit the Audi because the suspension is too low, therefore I am considering buying snow/winter tyres. Can you suggest an alternative to chains that might fit the standard RS4 alloys (19 inches) and whether snow tyres would be beneficial? Also, are they are accepted by the French Gendarmerie as an alternative to chains?

I don't think this car is suitable for this purpose at all. You could go the the expense of a set of smaller wheels with deeper profile winter tyres, but you need to consult an expert about what will fit around the brakes. Try www.rarerims.co.uk
