Is a harsh ride caused by sport suspension or tyres?

I've just bought a new SEAT Alhambra 2.0-litre diesel auto in SEL spec. It has 225/50 R17 self sealing tyres. The ride around town is very harsh and we feel every bump. Is it the sport suspension causing the problem and do these tyres make matters worse? Myself and my wife are getting on and both suffer with our backs, we were looking for comfort with occasional seven seat capacity. If we cannot improve matters we will change vehicle.

Combination of suspension and tyres. You can get 16-inch wheels with 60 profile tyres for the car. If going to this huge expense, get the 16-inch wheels from www.tyremen.co.uk and fit them with Michelin Cross Climate or Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen II tyres because they give the best ride quality for the profile. Of course you then have the disadvantage of non-runflat tyres.
