Should I replace my diesel with another diesel car?

I want to replace my diesel car but I'm concerned that the government seems to be demonising diesels. Should I take this opportunity to swap my diesel for a petrol vehicle or should I go along with all those who say there are too many private diesel owners, so the government wouldn't dare do anything horrid? I do about 13,000 miles a year.

For 13,000 miles a year I'd change to petrol anyway because of the increasing cost of maintaining the emissions equipment that now has to be fitted to diesel engines and that has a limited life.
