How much tax is there in the cost of a litre of diesel or petrol?

It is about time that you gave us your breakdown again, of how we have crude at very low prices yet unleaded petrol at chronically high prices. The VAT must be discounted since it is dependent of the underlying price. I'll be most interested.

If the fuel is £1.20 at the pumps, the cost of the fuel is 42.05p. Using the same sums you can work back from any pump price to calculate the VAT, subtract it, then subtract the standard 57.95p to get to the cost of the fuel.
