What engine type and tyres should I get on my BMW X1?

I am buying a new BMW X1, considering the xDrive xLine spec. I have a 21 mile journey to work each way that is 90% dual carriageway and motorway. Every 6 weeks I will probably be doing a 430 mile round trip with work. I am considering the 1.8d engine. What would you recommend?

Additionally, what tyre would you recommend for an 18-inch wheel? I am unsure whether to go for run flats. I see some comment that they are noisy, and also impact the ride. I like the benefit of extra boot space, plus the "safety" benefit of not having to change/foam a tyre. However, I understand the X1 is a little noisy without run flats. I would appreciate your advice.

I don't generally recommend diesels unless you will be doing 20,000 miles a year, but if the car is on lease or hand it back PCP then doesn't matter so much because you won't be paying for the 3 - 5 year problems.

These are BMW X1 tyre sizes:
225/50R17 7.5Jx17 ET34 5x120
225/45R18 8Jx18 ET30 5x120
225/45R18 | 255/40R18 8Jx18 ET30 | 9Jx18 ET41 5x120
225/40R19 | 255/35R19 8Jx19 ET30 | 9Jx19 ET41

Michelin does not do any of these exact 18-inch sizes in Cross Climates. The AA now carries emergency multifit spare wheels to get you to a tyre depot.
