What would be a reliable diesel family car?

I am looking for a reliable diesel family car. It should be no older than 2013, less than 40,000 miles and we have an £8000 budget. Can you please advise what the best options for me would be? I have been looking at the Ford Focus but would like to know if there are better options for me.

The 2011 - 2014 Focus has a fairly catastrophic reliability record. You're probably best off with a KIA Cee'd or Hyundai i30 1.6 CRDi, assuming you really need a diesel, because if you do less than 20,000 miles a year the maintenance costs of the emissions equipment will probably outweigh any saving in fuel.
