MINI Countryman clutch failure
My wife's MINI Countryman All4 has suffered a premature clutch failure after only 37,000 miles. As the clutch is not covered by the warranty (wear and tear, apparently), it has cost over £2000 to be repaired and the job took nearly three days.
Referring to the internet, I find that this is a common problem on this model with some clutches failing after only 6500 miles, with MINI refusing to replace the clutch and flywheel under the warranty.
My wife is a careful, mature driver who has never had to have a clutch replaced in around 45 years of driving. What can be done to get MINI to accept that they fitted a faulty clutch on this model during manufacture?

Added to the list in the carbycar entry. Seems to be common with the Countryman All4 probably due to the combination of transverse engine, BMWs first transverse AWD system and the dual mass flywheel. This model has now been replaced by an all new model with new floorpan, new engines and new transmissions as used in the 2-Series Active Tourer.
