Rejecting a lease car - can you tell what I need to do?
Hi John & Team - I recently leased a Nissan Qashqai, but just 3 weeks into the term it started failing when trying to change gear (albeit on an intermittent basis).
After lots failed attempts at getting someone to take ownership I am now in discussions with the Chief Execs office at Nissan UK and a senior figure at the finance company (Lex Autolease). However, the car has been at my local dealership for almost 2 weeks, and they say they cant replicate the fault. However, I know it is there and it has put me in danger on more than one occasion already. My concern is that I will be forced to take back a vehicle which I know is unsafe and for which I have already invested a lot of money in
Therefore I have two questions -
1) Do you know of similar issues with this Vehicle? (2016 1.6, 4WD, Diesel, Manual gearbox).
If Nissan can't find the fault, where do I stand legally if I want to reject the vehicle? I am concerned that I will loose my initial contribution (I put down 12 months upfront)

I recently took delivery of a Renault Kadjar 1.6 dCi 4x4 manual, which is essentially the same vehicle. I've only done about 700 miles in it, but no problems. It feels like it has a cable operated gearchange that now and again doesn't change perfectly, but this is a very minor criticism. If yours is wrong-slotting very badly because the cables have stretched then you may have a case, but I think it's really a matter of getting used to the vehicle. (I also did 700 miles recently, including some off roading, in a Dacia Duster 1.2TCe 125 4WD with the same drivetrain and had no problems with that.) In answer to your question, if no one can find fault with your vehicle then you have no grounds to reject either to the leasing company or to the supplying dealer.
