Ford S-MAX engine failure after 44,000 miles
I bought a six month old Ford S-Max from a dealer in 2011. The car had 6000 miles on the clock when I bought it and has been regularly serviced ever since. This week - at 44,000 miles - the car blew a piston, which resulted in catastrophic engine failure. The repairs have been estimated at over £8000. I've complained to Ford, but they are not interest in helping with any of the costs because its just over five years old. What should I do?

This actually happened when the car was just over five years old and Sale of Goods and case law generally holds that a reasonable life for an expensive consumer durable should be six years, not five years. Whether Ford can be held in any way liable depends on the service history of the car.
