Which wheels are best for comfort on Skoda Superb?

I am a taxi driver. My car is a 2010 Skoda Superb Estate. It has standard 18-inch wheels on low profile tyres which make for a hard ride. I am considering a move to a 16-inch-wheel with a larger sidewall tyre, but don't know what size I need without speedo recalibration. Can you advise please?

The standard 16-inch tyre size is 205/55 R16 94V. The standard 17-inch size is 205/50 R17 93H. 16-inch will suit the job better and some Pirelli and Hankook Ventus tyres have protruding rim protecting rubbing strips around the sidewalls.

The 17-inch rims and 225/45 tyres on my Skoda Superb are giving me a hard ride. A tyre fitter has suggested replacing the tyres, when worn - soon, apparently - with 225/50 tyres on the same 17" wheels.
My Skoda Superb SE is spoiled by hard ride on 17-inch wheels with 225/45 tyres. I've been advised to go for 225/50 tyres. Is this a good idea?
