I have just exceeded 150,000 miles in my 2006 Skoda Octavia diesel with no major problems.

My 2006 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI PD Estate has just completed 150,000 miles, 145,000 miles in my ownership plus 5000 as the dealer’s demonstration car. The only major expense I have incurred was for a dual mass flywheel and clutch at 127,000 miles. There have been no problems with the ABS or the diesel particulate filter, nor any other expensive component. According to the car’s computer my overall fuel consumption is 55mpg with 60+ mpg easily obtained on motorway runs of 100 miles or more. The car has been serviced exclusively at Simpsons Skoda Preston & Colne. I thought I should let you know this because you frequently scare people into selling their diesel engine Skodas well before they have reached 100,000 miles. I intend to keep this car to see whether I can wear it out. I will report back at 250,000 miles and let you know how I am doing.

Many thanks. Though a bit short of Irv Gordon’s 3,000,000 miles in his 1966 Volvo P1800, this is a typical mileage for an Octavia 1.9TDI. None of them ever had diesel particulate filters so that's one worry out of the way. You might have a bit of trouble with the turbo and/or the EGR. I’m surprised you did not mention timing belt replacement, required every four years. What can go wrong with them is in the Octavia entry in www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar
