Should our daughter buy a Fiat 500 as her next car?

My daughter has completed her studies and will hopefully soon be starting work as a midwife. She currently has an ageing Fiat Punto, but with a salary on the horizon is looking to upgrade and is keen on a Fiat 500. Is this a good choice? And, if so, should she be looking to buy new or used? In your opinion, which model is best for her and are there alternative cars worth considering?

Mine has been totally reliable for five and a half years, so is one of the most reliable cars I have ever run. Buying used, go for a 1.2 Lounge (with the white steering wheel, Blue&Me and glass roof). Try to get one 2010 build or later because they have improved (softer) rear suspension and handle better. All 500Cs (soft tops, but £2000+ more) had this improved suspension from mid-2009.
