Our new Honda FR-V's engine problem is being blamed on us - what can we do?
My Honda FR-V 2.2iCTDI, bought from a Honda dealer on 3 February 2013 with a warranty, broke down on the M25 two weeks ago. The engine began smoking and revving on its own, so we pulled over and switched the engine off. The car was towed to the Honda dealer, and they have done their 'fault tests' on it, after which they are saying it shows that we revved the car for five seconds and have deliberately caused the damage. I feel hurt that we are being blamed for doing something so ludicrous. We spent £7500 buying the car.

The 2.2iCTDI does not have a diesel particulate filter, but what could have happened is that one or more faulty injectors put too much fuel into the combustion chambers and this fuel sank into the sump, raising the level of the sump oil to a point where the engine started to run on its sump oil uncontrollably. Alternatively a failed turbo oil seal may have caused the turbo to siphon sump oil into the combustion chambers with the same result.
