Can a 'get me home' spare wheel be used with a caravan?

In common with many new cars, the Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI has a narrow 'get me home' spare wheel that is limited to a maximum speed of 50mph. If I have a puncture when towing my caravan, can the 'get me home' spare be used or would I have to call for roadside recovery? I would suspect it cannot be used because of the additional loads applied by the caravan to the rear of the vehicle but the local Ford dealer did not know. A full sized steel spare can be bought if necessary.

The main benefit of a space saver (besides saving space) is saving weight and improving fuel economy. You are not doing that pulling a caravan, so the sensible answer is a full sized spare.
