Should my BMW dealer pay for my wrecked Mini One engine?

My daughter has owned a 2007 Mini One 1400cc for the past four years. The car was regularly serviced at our local BMW dealership. Last week the car stopped suddenly at 30mph, engine oil and water everywhere, engine totally destroyed. We’re looking at a £1690 bill to fit a new engine, is there any point chasing BMW for some form of compensation?

If the car was regularly serviced by BMW dealers on a TLC contract and it was bought from and serviced by the BMW dealer you could try sale of goods in the small claims track: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
