I've received a PCN and don't think it legal.

I received a PCN at what I thought was a car park, but turns out to be a piece of private land adjacent to it separated by a few bits of broken fence. I bought a ticket from the pay and display machine and was surprised to find the PCN on my car when I got back.

Then I looked around and saw the notice which said 'not pay and display'. The fine is £75 pay now £150 pay later. I have read some of the advice on here and it would seem that I did not agree to enter into a contract with these people as I had brought a ticket for the car park I thought I was in.

Whoever applied the 'ticket' stuck it over the aforementioned ticket. Is this enough for me to ignore the 'fine' or what else should I do or not do?

If the issuer is a member of the BPA then there is a procedure: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/private-parking-penalties/
If it isn't then they have no legal access to the vehicle keepership details and you can ignore it.
