Which MPV to replace the discontinued Fiat Multiplas?

For the past ten years we have racked up a quarter of a million miles in four successive Fiat Multiplas; much of this going to and from the south of France carrying everything from six adults in leg stretching comfort to building materials, wardrobes, several motorbikes and many combinations of such. Now it seems that this awesome and underrated vehicle has been discontinued.

With what can we replace it? Our hopes for the Yeti were dashed today when we saw how tiny it is inside and the internet seems riddled with horror stories about the KIA Sorento's fuel consumption. What please, would you advise?

I suggest the Mazda 5 1.6d TS2 (it has to be TS2 to get it on sensible 205/44 R16 tyres). This is one of the most comfortable cars in existence, handles brilliantly, has a very well-matched engine and transmission and mine did 48.1mpg over 11,000 miles before I handed it back. I suppose you could also consider a Grande Scenic 1.6DCI 130 and a Grand C-Max 1.6TDCI 115, which has the same engine as the Mazda 5.
