How deep through water is it safe to take my Mitsubishi L200?

TV news reports about flooding have shown many drivers taking their cars through quite deep water. Do car manufacturers test the vehicles in water? I have a Mitsubishi L200, so if the situation arose how deep would it be safe to go and what is the best speed?

L200s have quite high air intakes, so as long as there are no breaches in the pipework it should be okay. If you get any floodwater ingested into the engine, it's curtains for the conrods.
