Which secondhand hatchback offers good fuel economy and is able to carry three children?

I'd like to buy a secondhand car not more than two years old, but I would consider new if I can get a good discount. I would also prefer a hatchback, but again would consider a small estate. Good fuel economy is essential. My mileage is about 10,000 miles annually and my car is used for shorter school runs mainly, therefore I presume a petrol car is more appropriate. The one essential factor is that I have four grandchildren of six years old and under, and I frequently need to transport three of them at a time. So the car needs to be big enough for two child seats and a booster seat.

Have a look at a SEAT Ibiza ST 1.2TSI 105 as these are good value, video tested at: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/seat/seat-ibiza-st...o.

Don't buy diesel unless you will be doing 15,000 miles a year plus. They now all have diesel particulate filters that are unsuitable for short run use.
