I completely endorse the use of left-foot braking when manoeuvring an automatic vehicle.

The first car I had with automatic transmission was a brand new 1969 Vauxhall Victor (FD) 2000. I very quickly learned that the best way to control this car was to use a left-foot braking technique, especially when manoeuvring in restricted spaces. I am now in my 70s and still adopt this braking method in my current Vauxhall automatic (a 1.8 Astra) and I totally endorse your recommendation that drivers of automatic cars should use left-foot braking. Incidentally, as well as my automatic I also drive a car with a manual gear box, and I have no difficulty in reverting to right-foot braking when in that car.

Many thanks for your support. I discovered the same thing at about the same time as you did and have been doing it ever since. But you've got 10 years on me. That’s probably enough on this topic for a while.
